The India government agency on Defense Research and Development highlighted the importance of transformational solutions and innovative technologies in fighting electronic waste challenge in the country. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) was leading a cleanliness campaign at a government school in connection with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi- The Father of the Nation.
Speaking at the event, G. Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO said that the country’s transition to digital technologies is likely to result in massive growth in consumption of electrical and electronics devices. He predicted tremendous growth to integrated, smart electronics systems, not only in consumer devices, but also in defense domain.
According to DRDO, the country is likely to face with huge tonnes of electronic waste. The organization urged every citizen of the country to actively participate in cleanliness drives organized by government authorities at various levels. This in turn will contribute towards building a clean and healthy India, it noted. DRDO reminded that every small step taken today will have lasting impact on global environment.
The recycling systems to deal with e-waste are still in emerging stage. The major challenge posed by growing e-waste in coming decades could be dealt only with life-changing solutions and inventive technologies, DRDO said.
